Keep Rippin' // Jason Hamborg's Yamaha YZ250x

 By
Kelly Kozakowski

Why did you choose your Yamaha YZ250x?
I chose my current bike mainly because I ride a lot of different types of terrain, from motocross to hard enduro, and the Yamaha YZ250x satisfies all of those styles pretty well. Plus, Yamaha's have always had a place in my heart since I started on the ol' PW50.

How did you get into riding dirt bikes?
My dad bought me a Yamaha PW50 when I was 3 years old, and as the story goes, from that point on I was hooked! There was just something so cool about the freedom that came with riding my bike! Riding slowly turned to racing, and it's been a major passion of mine for over 20 years now.

What inspires you to ride?
I think this answer has changed a lot over the years, but lately, the thing that inspires me to ride most is seeing how far I can push myself physically and mentally with some of the technical riding I have been doing. There's no better feeling than feeling progress with your riding ability and what you thought was possible.

Why did you start making riding videos?
I have been filming dirt bikes since I was a kid, my brother and I grew up watching "Crusty Demons of Dirt" and "The Great Outdoors". We would take out our family camcorder and do just as much filming as we did riding. Our mom would always yell at us for getting the camera all full of dirt and dust. Back then it was because we loved pretending we were in those movies that we watched all the time. There wasn't YouTube or Instagram, it was just for the love of creating.

That passion and hobby turned into a profession, I'm now the Creative Director of my own video production company. We produce all kinds of content, but still get to make dirt bike videos from time to time. Now, I love making riding videos just because of how stoked it gets other people! I love getting messages from people all over the world who watch my stuff and are stoked to go out and try it for themselves! That's a pretty neat feeling.

What would your top tip be for someone getting into riding?
I think regardless of the type of riding you want to get into, start with a dirt bike; you can drop it, crash it, learn how it reacts in different scenarios and all of those skills are super valuable on the street. I have ridden all kinds of street bikes and I believe my dirt bike experience is a huge asset for keeping me safe on the roads.

Tell us about the most exciting adventure you’ve taken on your bike.
Before COVID-19 I was planning on doing a 3-week trip from Arizona to Mexico with my brother and dad, but unfortunately that got put on hold. This past summer, a group of my friends got together in Revelstoke, British Columbia for a 3-day riding trip. It was a lot of fun and had all the elements of a good riding trip, friends, wicked terrain, and, of course, beer at the end of the ride!
