Heck, if the greatest spy in the world drives an Aston Martin, you know you’re doing something right. James Bond could do himself one better, however, by driving a Jaguar. More specifically, the Jaguar F-Type R. It’s the kind of car any spy would want to drive, let alone someone just looking for the thrill this vehicle provides. Jaguar has always been known for producing excellent sedans, but it’s this newest coupe variant that has the luxury-car community awestruck. The F-Type is Jaguar’s lone coupe as well as the British automaker’s sportiest and fastest vehicle available. Following in the footsteps of Jaguar’s crown jewel, the XJ, the F-Type is capable of being the most expensive vehicle in Jaguar’s cast depending on upgrades and other options that are available.

2018 Jaguar F-Type R Review

The F-Type R has been described as being a significant leap upward with its massive 5.0-liter supercharged V8. It’s paired to an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive transmission. The F-Type R is stylish with an exterior that screams “look at me!” while containing enough power to get the job done on the racetrack. Features include 20-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, a gloss black exterior trim, auto-dimming side mirrors, keyless entry, premium leather upholstery, and sport seats.

Now standard on all F-Types, including the R, is the Jaguar InControl Touch Pro infotainment system which features a faster processor. Added to the Infotainment system is a GoPro connectivity feature otherwise known as ReRun. This app is great for speed geeks in that it can record real-time track data including speed, lateral acceleration, gear selection, and throttle and brake position. Throughout the rest of the interior, you will find an Extended Leather Package featuring a leather upper dash trim and a leather sports sun visor with a mirror. Opt for the Exterior Carbon Fiber package and you’ll receive carbon fiber hood louvers, mirror caps, a front splitter, and side vents.

The Jaguar F-Type R price is actually more affordable than its luxury counterparts. Priced at just above $71,000, it’s much more reasonably priced than its competitors including the Porsche 911, Audi R8, and Mercedes-AMG GT.

The 2018 F-Type class’ safety was upgraded with the addition of several features: Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, and a state-of-the-art Driver Condition Monitor that senses driver fatigue. The new Adaptive Speed Limiter is also featured which uses Traffic Sign Recognition to regulate proper speed according to the appropriate signs that are posted along roadways. The standard safety features that are carried over from the 2017 model includes Forward Collision Warning and parking sensors.
